WARNING: Do not look if you are squeamish at the sight of blood!!!

Here are pictures from inside the operating theater.
They were provided by Dr.De Smet as I informed him that I intended to build a website, and share them with SURFACEHIPPY Chat / Help group.

Dr. De Smet, thank you very mutch indeed!

1. My very worn Femoral Head

Clearly shows how worn my femoral head actually was.
Rather than being a 'Ball', it looked more like an oval shaped mushroom head.

2. Close up of my Femoral head

Showing more clearly the wear & disfigurement caused
by years of 'bone on bone' activity.

3. Shaped femoral head

Clearly shows the chamfered head, to the diameter of the femoral component
It is also clearly visible where the diseased parts of the head have been removed.
The hole in the centre is from the guide line for the instruments.

4. Removing the diseased bone

Here the surgeon is removing the Arthritic infected bone from the head.
After this process, luckilly there was still sufficient bone
left to safely complete the surgery.

5. Depth marking, and size check

Here you can see the marking tool to ensure that there is sufficient bone
to safely accomodate the femoral component. Also it tests to make sure that
the bone is symetrical and the component will fit securely.

6. The final product.

The final part, attaching the Femoral component.
This is acheived by first placing cement in the centre of the component,
Then the ball is actually hammered home using a rubber ended attachment and a hammer.
